Abstract

This article examines the progress and shortcomings of the right to truth in Brazil. As Brazil marks 40 years since the military dictatorship ended (1964-1985), and with renewed interest owing to the film “I’m Still Here,” the State’s debt to dictatorship victims remains significant. While there have been some achievements, many obstacles still hinder the realisation of the right to truth in Brazil. The aim of the article is therefore to critically analyse the effectiveness of the right to truth in the country, while pointing out important facts and events that marked its development. It is expected to locate the current status of the right to truth and to comprehend how far Brazil is from fully implementing this right.
